Gena B. Burns
Gena is the firm’s labor and employment law specialist. She regularly advises clients and litigates matters concerning equal employment opportunity laws, disability and family medical leave, wage and hour issues (including class actions and PAGA claims), sexual harassment, workplace violence, public employee benefits and retirement, employee discipline and disciplinary arbitrations, collective bargaining processes, and interpretation of labor contracts. Gena has represented clients in both state and federal court and obtained a published ruling from the Fourth Appellate District Court of Appeal in Southcott v. Julian-Cuyamaca Fire Protection, 32 Cal.App.5th 1020 (2019).
Gena has served as lead negotiator for many of the firm’s clients. She has also successfully handled cases before the Public Employment Relations Board and the National Labor Relations Board and has extensive experience with employee disciplinary hearings. Gena has experience counseling clients with respect to workplace and compliance issues including employee terminations, personnel investigations, reductions-in-force, handbooks, and the development of personnel policies and procedures. Gena delivers training to the firm’s clients on labor and employment related matters.
